Arizona Looks to Feds to Solve Border Crisis
Arguably the most hotly contested issue in Arizona, if not the entire United States, is the growing crisis at the border. With thousands of migrants making the crossing every week, it's becoming hard to ignore the reality in front of us.

The Issue After Crossing
Many migrants that make the crossing come over illegally, which is where the root of America's issues with border security takes place. Inevitably, many of these migrants will be picked up by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
Once processed through the Homeland Security program, many of these migrants are released with no plan whatsoever on where to go next. Many end up with nowhere to go, and find themselves on the streets.
This becomes a no-win scenario for everyone involved. Arizona residents want cleaner streets with less of an unhoused population, while migrants that cross the U.S. border want housing, work and stability.
So what's the solution?
Federal Aid
Arizona leaders have been looking to the federal government for help with the border crisis for years, but their approach just changed. Instead of trying to secure the border further, which has yet to help the issue at hand, Arizona legislators are looking to help the migrants who did make it over.
Gov. Hobbs has asked congress for $752 Million to increase funding for the U.S. Customs and Border Protection's Shelter and Service Program (SSP). This program provides assistance to undocumented migrants after their release from Homeland Security. This assistance can come in the form of shelter, food, and more, and can help these migrants adapt and integrate into the larger American society.
It has yet to be seen if this funding will be granted, and even more so if the funding will work, but it's a new angle that might help the border crisis once and for all.
