You Can’t Believe Your Eyes Anymore: Arizona’s A.I. Issue
On August 29th, 1997, the machines rose up and exterminated most of the human race. Their superior coded intelligence led to a swift end to the war and an era of technological overlords.
At least, that's what James Cameron predicted in his 1984 smash-hit "The Terminator", but the rise of A.I. is no fictional problem.
Artificial Intelligence or Artificial Insincerity
Within the past two years, Artificial Intelligence has made leaps and bounds, culminating in Sora Openai, an AI prompt generator creating lifelike videos that are almost indistinguishable from reality.
This program has obviously garnered its fair share of critics. With a program like this, there is nothing stopping users from creating false evidence to be used in court, deepfakes that can ruin lives, or pornography of real, un-consenting people.
These are all incredibly serious concerns that can negatively affect real people. There has yet to be any regulation against A.I. and many are beginning to fear even further development in the technology.
Leading the Way
While the federal government has yet to do anything to regulate Artificial Intelligence, Arizona is hoping to lead the charge against malicious use of A.I.
House Bill 2394, brought to the Arizona House in late January 2024, would be a landmark bill that allows for Arizona citizens and politicians to challenge video evidence they believe to be A.I. generated.
If this bill passes, it will be one of the first A.I. regulatory bills in the United States, and will hopefully start a trend that the rest of the country will follow.
