The Tragic Tale Of The Slaughterhouse Canyon
In a lonely canyon near Kingman, Arizona, a tragedy echoed against the nearby rocks. During the 1800's, many people flocked to Arizona in search of gold and other riches. Very few people actually found anything. Many people became broke, hungry, and sometimes even violent. Families would sacrifice everything for their chance to strike big. Sometimes, their own lives. The story of Slaughterhouse Canyon, also known as Luna's Canyon, is no exception to these tragic stories.

The Family
In the 1880's, an aspiring gold miner found himself in a canyon with his wife, Luna, and their children, according to The Medium. The family was too poor to go out and buy food, so the man brought back whatever he could when he went searching for riches. He did the most he could to keep his family clothed and fed, and for a while, it was enough. Despite that, he felt like he needed to strike it rich so he would be able to provide a better life for his family. He would spend days and sometimes even weeks away from home searching for his fortune.
The family spent months living in the canyon, and were doing okay for the most part. That is, until one day everything changed. The man kissed his family goodbye, with promises of returning with food and wealth. Sadly, he didn't return at all.
The Tragedy
Only in Arizona reports that one day the miner left to go hunting for gold and food, and he never returned home. Days turned to weeks, and Luna and her children began to starve to death. After days of listening to her children screaming in pain and begging for food, and the unknown fate of her husband looming over her head, Luna lost her mind. One evening during a storm, she put on her wedding gown and brutally killed her children. She supposedly dismembered them and threw their remains into a nearby river. The murder was so brutal that the walls of the shack the family was living in were drenched in blood, alongside Luna's once-white wedding dress.
Different sources report different endings to this tragedy. Only in Arizona claims Luna took her own life out of grief, while The Mirror reports that she starved to death the morning after the tragedy, her screams echoing through the canyon. Either way, her spirit is rummored to be trapped in the canyon, unable to atone for what she did.
To this day, people report creepy and paranormal things happening in Luna's Canyon. The 918 Files reports that a man from Phoenix once wandered into this canyon and heard weeping coming from a bush with no one nearby. Others report feeling watched, and even seeing an apparition of a woman in white wandering aimlessly through the canyon. Whether or not you believe Slaughterhouse Canyon is haunted, the tale is still an important reminder of how hard life on the frontier was and how deadly the gold rush became.
