One of my strongest memories came on November 29th, 2008. My family and I headed up to the North Georgia mountains, cut down a Christmas Tree, and then set it up as we watched Tim Tebow and the Florida Gators trounce Florida State in a downpour.

While that game holds special memories to me, it will never overshadow the memories of getting ready for the holiday season with my family.

But in a state with little in the way of naturally-grown Christmas Trees, how can you recapture that feeling?

Is It Legal to Cut Down Your Own Christmas Tree in Arizona

For starters, Arizona does have plenty of spots to chop down the tree of your dreams. There are plenty of forests, mountains, and other wooded areas that host a variety of trees, many of which would look perfect decorated in lights and tinsel.

Because of the multiple locations that host Douglas Firs, it is not illegal to cut down your own trees in Arizona, but it can't just be anywhere. The U.S. Forest Service has a handy guideline on where and when you can cut down your tree.

In order to do this, however, you will need a permit. You can grab these for each forest at Recreation.gov, which will also guide you on where and where not you can chop.
