It's a crazy small world we live in. Something that happens in one part of the world could have connection to somewhere on the opposite side of the globe.

Such is the case with the tragic assassination of former United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson, whos threads reach all the way from The Big Apple to the Grand Canyon State.

The Assassination of Brian Thompson

On December 4th, 2024, tragedy struck New York City. At around 6:44am, Brian Thompson, the CEO of United Healthcare, was shot and killed by a masked perpetrator in broad daylight while walking to work. The suspect then disappeared into Central Park, and was not heard from again, aside from messages he wrote on the bullets (Delay, Deny, Depose) , and a backpack full of Monopoly money left in the park.

On December 9th, one Luigi Mangione was arrested at a McDonalds in Altoona, Pennsylvania, carrying fake IDs, a gun similar to the one seen during the shooting, and a manifesto, urging for action against corporate America.

Mangione's Friend Speaks Out

When news of the arrest broke, Scottsdale resident Corey Wey was shocked. The two had gone to High School together at Gilman, a small All-Boys Private School in Baltimore with only about 100 students per grade.

Wey says that he was blown away by the news that his former classmate could do something like this. He says Mangione was quiet, friendly, and intelligent (as should be obvious by Mangione's resume), and he couldn't fathom someone so meek to pull the trigger at this scale.

Magione was apparently also Gilman's Valedictorian, speaking at the school's graduation ceremony in 2016.
