There are several ways to protect your car from being stolen, from simply making sure to lock your doors every time, to buying a car alarm. Never leave your keys in the car, above the sun visor, or under the seat, and park near well-lit areas. Home cameras pointed at your vehicle can also be a deterrent.

Another way to protect your car, truck, or van is to have your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) etched into the windows. Corporal Scott Borgstadt with Sierra Vista Police Department stopped by the radio station to tell us about an upcoming event to do just that.

“Vehicles cost a lot these days, so it's important to protect your investment. One easy way is to have your vehicle identification number, or VIN etched into the windows. Windows are one of the most profitable items for chop shops. VIN etching your windows is a proven method to prevent criminals from stealing a vehicle.”

On Saturday, April 22nd, from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM, the Sierra Vista Police Department, in conjunction with the citizens' police Academy associates, will be at the Mall at Sierra Vista conducting a free Vin etch event. They will be set up on the east side of the mall. This is a free event, but donations are appreciated. Your vehicle is an investment. Protect it with VIN etch on Saturday, April 22nd, from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the mall at Sierra Vista.

Thank you to the Sierra Vista Police Department and the citizens' Police Academy associates for all you do.
