Sierra Vista Garden friends Facebook page was created 11 years ago with the Sierra Vista backyard gardener in mind. In the beginning the intent was to help the beginning gardener, and those who are new to gardening in the desert. They are a group of friends that help each other in the Joys and struggles of gardening. On the page everyone celebrates the victories of harvest time with pictures and posts! It’s fun to see what is blooming in everyone’s garden. This is a great group of gardeners that help each other and offer hands-on advice of living in the high desert, like what grows well here and when to plant, prune, harvest, and even how much to water.

The groups description on the Facebook page is: Season gardener or new to Arizona? This is a group of local gardening friends for sharing gardening tips, ideas, pictures, and questions.

Many friendships have been made through this group and they even have activities offline together like touring the Discovery Gardens located at UA Sierra Vista; it is an educational demonstration garden. They are open for walk throughs Monday – Friday 8:30am to 4:00pm

Occasionally they have plant and seed exchanges, swapping harvest fruits and vegetables, even plants and seeds with each other. There is always something extra at harvest time to share from the garden.

Some of the frequently asked questions from members are, what time is best to plant, seeds, trees, bulbs, and plants? What grows well in our area? What is the best location to plant your garden? How to build up our soil and help with watering your garden.

Take a look at some of the local pictures below. It doesn't matter if you are a beginner or a pro, check out Sierra Vista Garden Friends on Facebook
