It's hard to imagine spending time in a cold, concrete room with no one to bark at or play with. The staff and volunteers at the Nancy J. Brua Animal Care Center work very hard to make every pup's stay as comfortable as possible, but they're no substitute for a warm bed and a comfortable couch.

Spending the Day Away from the Shelter

The staff at Townsquare Media Sierra Vista welcomed a very special visitor. K101's Val in the Morning and our Good News reporter, Harley Noble, got to spend a day with Taz.

Taz is an American Pit Bull Terrier. The Nancy J Brua Animal Care Center even knows her birthday: August 5th, 2023, which makes her sun sign a Leo.

According to Horoscope.com:

"Leos are confident, passionate, charismatic, and natural leaders who inspire others with their warmth and determination." This definitely describes Taz!

Val and Harley took Taz to Livia's Coffee, where they spoiled her with a Pup Cup! She enjoyed her visit and loved meeting the friendly staff and customers!

All the Deets: Taz

Taz is about two years old right now, and she's spent a lot of her life at the shelter. She arrived on June 7th, 2025. As I write this, she's been a resident there for 305 days. Almost a full year.

She's friendly and full of energy, and I'm pretty sure she's never met a stranger. She absolutely LOVES toys (the squeakier, the better) and will take you for a walk. Put that leash on, and hang on, because she's always ready for an adventure!

Meet Taz: Precious Pup

Taz has been at the shelter a long time. She's been moved into a special program called "Precious Pups", a group of long-term residents who are on a critical list for adoption, as the shelter struggles to keep up with demand for space.

According to the shelter's supervisor, Arleen Garcia, the Precious Pup program started out with 12 dogs. So far, 5 have been adopted. Seven are still available, and they're very special:

  • Precious Pups are FREE to adopt!
  • They come with all of their shots, including a rabies vaccination
  • They've received a health check-up
  • Microchipped
  • They will receive free training sponsored by Arrow's Landing
  • They come with a doggy starter kit, collar, leash, toys, and more!
