Bringing someone back from the dead is a quest humanity has been on since the beginning of society. From necromancy to Dr. Viktor Frankenstein, creating, or rather recreating life is a goal we've always hoped to achieve.

We've finally been able to break the barrier between life and death, but is it worth it?

Back to Life

In December of 2021, 37 year old Army veteran Christopher Pelkey was shot and killed in a road rage incident in Chandler. Now, in 2025, four years later, Christopher got to meet his killer face-to-face in the courtroom, but how?

This all started with Chris' older sister, Stacey. She realized that, after going through victim statements, Chris' voice was notably absent. So, she enlisted the help of her husband and his friend to build an AI model based on her brother's likeness.

Meeting Face-to-Face

On the killer's court date, Chris made his appearance. The video is simple, nothing more than a slightly moving still image of Chris with an obviously processed voice. Nonetheless, his appearance was effective.

Chris spent much of his (digital) time forgiving his killer, stating "In another life, we probably could've been friends. I believe in forgiveness and in God who forgives. I always have and I still do." This sentiment moved Judge Todd Lang, who oversaw the case, and clearly felt the family's pain in losing their loved one. All in all, it worked, and Pelkey's murderer was sentenced to just under 13 years in prison.
