The Largest City Park In America Is Right Here In Phoenix
In an era where everything costs money, from necessities to recreation, we're desperate for a place we can just exist without our bank account draining before our eyes.
Parks are always the best bet, where you can surround yourself with the natural beauty of our world, get active, or just sit back and read a book. If you want the best experience for that in America, you have to go to Phoenix, AZ.
The Largest City Park in America
Located directly south of Phoenix proper sits the South Mountain Park and Preserve. The park sits over a sprawling 16,000 acres of land, making it the largest municipal park in America.
The area was originally used for a similar purpose by the native Hohokam people, as an area for hunting and recreation. This means that the area is littered with petroglyphs, over 30,000 across the park's expanse.

What to Do at South Mountain
South Mountain isn't just your run-of-the-mill city park. With that much space, there's so much to do to get away from the hustle and bustle of the big city. Three mountain ranges (the Ma Ha Tauk, Gila, and Guadalupe) sit within its borders, hosting over 100 miles of trails for you to explore on foot, horseback, or bike.
Dobbin's Lookout is a fan-favorite, offering one of the most stunning, unobstructed views of the city. Aside from its status as the biggest in the U.S., this park is a must visit for any Arizonan based on its views and natural beauty alone.
