We all want the future to come now. Flying cars, teleporters, and personal androids are still nothing but a fantasy, but small changes have made our present feel more like the neon-soaked streets of the future.

Amazon is currently at the front of the pack, with their latest innovation seeing self-manned drones deliver packages to doorsteps in the blink of an eye. Like all great Cyberpunk stories, however, there's no happy ending.

Amazon's Drone Program in Arizona

Ever wished you could order something, and see it on your doorstep within minutes? Well, that's the problem Amazon has hoped to solve using their newest delivery system, using unmanned drones to deliver your packages in just a few hours, delivery center to doorstep.

The program started up just last year, in Tolleson, Arizona as a testing site before the program would be taken nationwide. Flights began in October, but not much leeway has been made for the rest of the world.

Drone Program Crashes and Burns (Literally)

Unfortunately, this program can't seem to get off the ground (pun intended), and accidents every few weeks isn't helping their case. Multiple crashes were reported in December 2024, citing rain causing software issues as the main problem.

This seems to be a recurring issue, with more crashes being reported across 2024 for various reasons: software crashes, user error, or just plain hardware failure. Amazon is insistent that these are merely tests, and these failures are necessary to produce the perfect end product. Issue is, these were already in use, implying that they'd put customer, or just pedestrian, health at risk just to test their products.

It's unknown when the program will start back up, but Amazon is hopeful that they'll return better than ever.
