Election fraud has been a hot topic on everyone's minds since the fuss raised after the 2020 election. The Trump administration is currently in the midst of making that almost impossible, and he's using Arizona to test it.

The ramifications of this act, however, could make Arizonans information less secure than ever.

Citizen Checks are Coming

Within the next few weeks, Arizona will reach out to the Department of Homeland Security. Why? They need help. The state is planning on conducting citizenship tests on over 48,000 citizens within the state's borders. These checks are planned to be widespread and involuntary, outside of both state and federal law.

This information would then be sent to the Federal Government, with absolutely nothing you can do to stop it. Despite Republican party leaders insistence that this is a major issue, this is overkill in every sense of the word.

Recapping the White House's Visit to Arizona

Why is This Unnecessary?

There are plenty of safeguards to actually stop illegal voting from happening at the national level. Registration forms already require a testament to citizenship under threat of perjury. Add to that Arizona's requirement to provide documents before voting, and this becomes an incredibly unnecessary step that will only provide the Federal Government with more of your information than they already have.

Arizona also makes routine checks on its voters to ensure they're here legally, typically thorough the U.S. Postal Service, ADOT, and other state agencies that can confirm if someone is, in fact a U.S. citizen. What the Federal Government is planning to do with your data? I have no idea, but this idea inches us closer and closer to George Orwell's 1984, and that isn't a great feeling.
