There may be no greater issue in Arizona politics than border regulation. Over the past eight years, the matter has only grown larger, and most Arizonans are patiently waiting for any sign of a change.

Well, a change is coming, but it's likely not the one you want.

The Border Wall is Being Sold

Luckily, it's not as bad as it might sound. The state isn't selling the entire wall that's taken years to put up. Instead, they will be selling pieces of the fence for five dollars a pop. The sale was being run by GOVPLANET, a government surplus sale site.

The listing for the border wall pieces was taken down, however, for unknown reasons. The auction was meant to take place on December 18th, but will either be cancelled completely or put off to another date. No details currently show which.

Why is the Government Selling the Border Wall??

This sale has, obviously, caused an uproar. Many people have blamed the current administration for trying to sabotage the upcoming Trump administration, including former Governor Doug Ducey.

The Department of Defense has released their reasoning, stating that they were required by congress to find a home for much of the unused material, and since the state government did not specifically request to not sell this, it's out of their hands.

Luckily, this material is not going to waste, as much of it will be redistributed to Texas and California, where they can continue to build their specific border walls. Now that the auction has shut down though, some believe that the materials could stay in state for their original purpose.

Only time will tell.
