Abortion Is On The Ballot In Arizona: What’s Trump’s Plan?
Arizona's been in the national news a lot lately. Being a pivotal swing state for both parties, the politicians and residents of the Grand Canyon State are doing everything they can to flip the state in their favor.
The hottest issue in Arizona, however, is one that people have trouble discussing: Abortion. With Donald Trump's arrival in Cochise County, folks are hoping he'll give them what they want on that front.
Historic Abortion Ban
Earlier in 2024, Arizona made headlines, not for our natural beauty, thriving economy, or growing community, but for a law. This law, dating its first signing back to 1864, banned abortion in all aspects, threatening prison time for those who doctors who still performed the procedure. The law only provided one exception, the mother's life. Other exceptions such as rape and incest were still illegal under this law.
The law received massive pushback nationally, and even some from former president Donald Trump himself. In May, Governor Katie Hobbs repealed the decision to bring this law back, and it will head to the voters this November.
Trump on Abortion
With the Democrats fighting tooth and nail for abortion rights, it's only right that Donald Trump would take the defensive. Which is exactly what he's been doing. He recently opened up about the overturning of Roe v. Wade, stating that he has no regrets about the ruling, as it was Supreme Court Justices he appointed that made the call.
However, he doesn't support a nation abortion ban, in fact, it seems his problem more has to do with State's Rights. He says that the federal government should not be making a national call on the legality, and instead should be up to each individual state.
His supporters seem to have conflicting opinions on this, with many calling for a straight up national ban, while others believe that it should be the woman's right to choose. Regardless, they all look to Trump for answers, and he plans on getting those rights back to the states as soon as he can.
