This ONE Thing Is Illegal On Your Arizona License Plate
On the back of every car here in the United States of America, rests a license plate. They vary based on state, with some being more colorful and designed than others (I'm looking at you California).
Every state has different rules for how these plates must be displayed, and Arizona has a very odd requirement.
What Makes License Plates So Important?
License plates are, in essence, an ID for your car. It ties it to both the person owning the vehicle, as well as the state, and address registered to it. These are here for our safety, allowing police to quickly identify rule breakers on the road, or track down your car if it's been unfortunately stolen.
Because of these reasons, these plates are incredibly valuable, however, more at a personal level. Ensuring that your plates are visible and attached to your car correctly is step one at protecting your vehicle.

It's Illegal to do THIS to Your AZ Plate
While there are plenty of things you know you can't do with your license plates, such as putting profanity on custom plates, tinting glass as to obscure the letters, and simply driving without one, there's a much lesser known issue that's incredibly illegal in Arizona.
If you have a license plate cover, maybe one that shows off your favorite sports team or television show, you must make sure the extended edges leave one thing untouched: the state name. Yes, in Arizona it's absurdly illegal to cover the ARIZONA letters adorning the top of your plate. Why we need to keep these visible, I have no idea. Arizona is one of those license plates that is instantly recognizable, but this may help to crack down on counterfeit plates.
Regardless on your opinion of having to do this, it's best to listen to ADOT. They know best.
