Fountain Hills, AZ: One of the largest water fountains in the world
Have you ever been to Fountain Hills, AZ? It is just a little over three hours from Sierra Vista. It is located thirty miles East of Scottsdale. Fountain Hills has one of the biggest fountains in the world. It was built in 1970 and is three hundred and thirty feet tall. According to the website you can see the fountain from the Superstition Mountains and aircraft. There is a small lake with walking paths (a loop of 1.2 miles) and several benches. The lake also has a lot of ducks and other birds. There is a large park to watch from with abundant playground equipment and a musical percussion section with xylophones, and other similar instruments for the kids to play while they wait for the fountain to turn on. The fountain turns on every hour for 15 minutes and is three hundred thirty feet high, but can go as high as five hundred sixty feet. They only do the maximum height on special occasions, Saint Patrick's Day, The 4th of July and December 5th (the fountain's anniversary). At Christmas, the fountain is red and green. On Saint Patrick's Day, the fountain is green.
On this trip we also took pictures of the Christmas lights in downtown Fountain Hills.
You can watch a live stream of the fountain in the link below.
Note: It is turned on for fifteen minutes at the top of each hour. Be sure to mark your calendars for Saint Patrick's Day, the fourth of July and December fifth.
