Does Tucson Have The Nation’s Best Mexican Food?
No matter where you go on earth, every city, town, or village believes that they have the best ___ food. Sure, some places have better culinary scenes than others, but claiming you make the definitive version of specific foods is vastly overconfident.
Unless, of course, you're Tucson, who has a brand new campaign to fight for their culinary superiority.
Tucson's Believes It's the Best
Starting in November, Tucson launched a new campaign, claiming that they were the "Home of America's Best Mexican Food". 36 signs were placed around the city by the tourism board, and a website has been created to showcase some of the city's best.
This has been a massive push by the tourism board, hoping that it will bring more people into the local economy, but more so, hoping to gain a sense of pride as the city to get authentic and delicious Mexican food.

How Accurate is This Claim?
Luckily for Tucson, they do actually have a solid claim to this title. While obviously enjoyment of food is subjective, there are some metrics you can use to hold yourself superior.
For example, many restaurants and chefs in Tucson have received nods from the James Beard Foundation, an organization that ranks the best chefs in the world. More impressive is Tucson's inclusion as a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy, the first U.S. state to do so.
Whether Tucson actually has the best Mexican food in the country is irrelevant, but their dedication and passion to creating a unique culinary scene sets The Old Pueblo pretty high in my book.
