You Won’t Believe What Arizona’s Wasting $900 Million On
A billion dollars is the most absurd amount of money in the world. It's so large, in fact, that most people can't accurately comprehend how much it is.
Despite that, it's a number we're used to seeing, whether it's the extravagantly wealthy showing off their net worth, or national governments buying more advanced missile systems.
Arizona's about to spend that much on something truly baffling.
Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment
Otherwise known as BEAD, this federal program is focused on the future. Well, maybe not the planet's future, but our internet's. It's no question that the world wide web was the most significant invention in modern human history, and this program is meant to share it's greatness with everyone.
Recently, Governor Katie Hobbs approved Volume II of this program in Arizona, which allocates roughly $993 Million in funding to internet access across the state. This proposal was discussed heavily among the public to ensure the funds would be used correctly.
Time to see if they're up for the challenge.
What Will This Money Go To?
The main goal of this absurdly large check is to ensure that internet is accessible and more importantly reliable across the state of Arizona. The internet is the heart of the economy, and that's especially true in less connected, rural areas.
By using this money to properly connect the right communities to the grid, we can expect more economic growth from areas that historically aren't as strong.
But is slightly faster and more expansive internet worth a billion dollars? For those in rural communities, the answer is likely yes! We take quick, or even working internet for granted, but it's not a guarantee in more isolated communities.
What are your thought? Is this a good use of federal funding, or should the government find better uses for a billion dollar check.
