SET FOR LIFE: The Biggest Lottery Win In Arizona History
Want to have more money than you know what to do with, but don't feel like ever putting in any work for it? You'd be in the same boat as just about every American, and because of that, our Lottery is immensely popular.
Unfortunately, the Lottery is rigged to ensure you don't win, but every so often, someone gets really really lucky.
What Was America's Biggest Lottery Win?
Since its inception in 1934, the Lottery has seen its fair share of winners and losers alike. Those massive billboards promising you billions if you just buy a ticket have drawn in millions of people to take a shot at glory.
The highest sum ever paid out for a lottery ticket was for $2.07 Billion in 2022. The ticket was sold to one Edwin Castro, who had approximately 1-in-292.2 Million chance of winning. Castro didn't walk away with the two billion, as he chose to accept his payment in full. That payment? A one-time sum of $997.6 Million.

Arizona's Biggest Lottery Win
Castro's payment was the largest in American history, but unfortunately for us, he was an L.A. native, and so that glory went to California yet again. That doesn't mean that Arizona winners haven't made off like bandits, though.
Arizona's biggest winner is a man named Matthew Good. On November 28th, 2012, Matthew bought a Powerball ticket, and when the numbers matched, he won $587.5 Million. He took the payment split, and all-in-all, made out with $384,747,857.92. Sure, it's not the BILLION that Castro won, but I'd say nearly $400 Million isn't a bad consolation prize.
