Why Does Arizona Insist On Paying More For College?
Graduating high school is a monumental achievement in most people's lives. The culmination of 12 years of hard work and discipline finally pays off, and sends you prepared into the real world.
For many, education ends here, but some prefer to keep going, heading to university to further their pursuit of knowledge. Unfortunately, it's incredibly expensive to pursue higher education these days, and Arizonans are allergic to making it easier.
What is FAFSA?
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is one of the greatest programs put into the United States Education System. A federal program (who would have guessed) that helps families acquire loans to pay for college tuition.
The program not only provides families with loans and grants, but also passes the information along to colleges so that they too might extend a helping hand to incoming students.
Arizona Doesn't Believe in FAFSA
While FAFSA may be seen as a godsend to most entering higher education, it seems that Arizona graduates don't want to bother with it. According to the Arizona Board of Regents, only 26% of graduating seniors completed the application for 2024.
In order to combat this, the ABOR was gifted an extra million dollars to increase completions across the state. It seemed to have worked, as since April, an additional 17,000 students completed the application.
FAFSA is an incredibly helpful resource for anyone interested in pursuing a college degree, and the application is free! There's no reason not to apply and see what you get, at worst you may only cover a small amount, but sometimes you can almost pay off your entire tuition with its help. For those graduating in 2025, I'd suggest to start looking at the application.
