Moving from Florida to Arizona was maybe one of the largest culture shocks I've ever had. The people, landscape, and way of living is so different between the two, but I eventually adjusted.

One thing does connect the two states, however, and that's the yearly "snowbird migration". Arizona may have just put a plan in place to stop this nuisance altogether.

Papers, Please!

Starting on April, 11th, Canadians will be required to register under the United States and have their fingerprints taken if they wish to enter the country. Now, there are exceptions of course.

Children under 14 years old will not be required to register their fingerprints, and you will only be required to be registered if you are planning on staying within the United States for 30 days or more. This follows many other policies that have attempted to isolate our northern neighbor , but it may have unintended consequences on Arizona.

Arizona's Lawsuit Against Donald Trump Explained

How Will This Affect Arizona's economy?

Your first thought at hearing this may have been "Thank god! No more snowbirds!" but their absence may make life harder for us in the Grand Canyon State. When the announcement was made, it was found that around 75% of Canadians who take yearly vacations to Arizona have cancelled their trips for the near future.

This would cause a massive disruption to the Arizona economy, especially to the valley, which expects a large number of Canadian snowbirds every year. It's estimated that Canadian Snowbirds bring around $1.4 Billion to Arizona every year, and that number is expected to drop drastically this year.

Will this policy be followed through, or is this just another threat in the midst of the U.S./ Canada Trade war? We'll have to wait for summer to see.
