Bikepacking: Explaining Arizona’s Most Unique Outdoor Activity
Arizona is one of the great states for the outdoors. You only have to drive about five minutes from anywhere to find some of the most beautiful views and challenging hikes in America.
Because of this, Arizonans have a knack to create the wildest ways to experience the nature the Grand Canyon State has to offer them, and none are more suited for the state than Bikepacking.
What is Bikepacking?
The concept is simple: take touring back to its roots. It's a mix of off-road biking and backpacking, combining the two to create an addictive new activity. You'll embark on a multi-day journey across the Arizona landscape with nothing but the bare essentials on your back and a bike under you.
There are dozens of specified trails across Arizona, each one with their own challenge and beauty. Anyone can start, even with the basic equipment you've got. This is an activity for everyone.

How Do You Get Started?
The first thing you'll want to do is pick a trail, preferably a shorter one, around 10 to 20 miles. This will give you a chance to get a feel for the activity, and give you an easy out if need be.
Start with any gear you have, and make sure to pack pre-made meals to lower your carry weight. Once you're out, take in the experience. How did it make you feel? Can you push yourself more? If the answer to these is yes, start planning out your next route, and always ensure you have an option to bail if you need.
