The Space Race is Coming to Sierra Vista
From taking pictures of Black Holes to finding water on Mars, Arizona has held itself in the forefront of space exploration for decades.
Sierra Vista is about to join that club of providing valuable resources and intellect to further our understanding of the cosmos.
Aeronautics technology company BlackStar Orbital will be finding a new home in Cochise County, marking the company's first foray into Arizona.
Who Is Blackstar Orbital?
BlackStar Orbital is a space technologies company primarily based on Florida's space coast. The group develops satellites and spacecraft to be used for both governmental and private buyers.
BlackStar works with a focus on creating reliable, reusable spacecraft, very similar to the mission of competitor SpaceX. They build their satellites in order to map things such as the Earth's atmosphere and ocean floor in hopes of bettering our existence on this planet.
What's Coming to Sierra Vista?
BlackStar will be operating a manufacturing and testing facility for the BlackStar Spacecraft in Sierra Vista. The Spacecraft will merge the utilities of a satellite and a spaceplane to more easily collect the data it's looking for.
This is a massive addition to the Sierra Vista economy, bringing a highly profitable industry to the heart of the city.
Representing an investment of just over $7 Million, the facility will bring over 50 new tech and engineering jobs to the city, and should mark a new horizon for the Aerospace sector of Cochise County.
The facility in Sierra Vista will be located at the Sierra Vista Municipal Airport and will open in 2026.
