How much does it actually snow in Cochise County?
Snow in Arizona?
Arizona is not a state known for its cold weather and heavy snowfall. Despite the snow that sometimes decorates our mountains in the winter, the cities in Cochise County very rarely see snow in their driveways.
Even when it does snow, chances our Arizona's favorite neighbor will have it melted before noon. With all of this in mind, how much snow Cochise County has gotten since 2018?

The numbers
To find the answer to this question I started off by looking at the average snow fall in different cities in Cochise County. According to Current Results Sierra Vista gets an average of 0.4 inches of snow a year. Surrounding towns get roughly 1-3 inches of snow a year.
In 2018 the cities in Cochise County got around 2-4 inches of snow. Even though that seems like barely any snow, this was a big deal for a community who very rarely gets it. People were being told to stay home from school and work. Highway 80 was closed, Fort Huachuca was closed, and events around town got canceled.
In 2019 Cochise County received an estimated 3-6 inches of snow. Once again, Fort Huachuca was closed down, and people stayed away from their cars due to multiple incidents caused by icy roads.
2020-2025 were a lot less dramatic when it came to snow fall. There was an amazing 0 inches of snow recorded during the years 2020, 2021, and 2023.
In 2022 there was roughly 1-2 inches of snow with no road closures despite the ice, and school still in session.
In 2024 and 2025 there was a total of 7.5 inches of snow.
So, between the years of 2018 and 2025 Cochise County received roughly 17.5 inches of snow!
Fun Fact
Despite being an Arizona City, Flagstaff's location in the northern part of the state causes it to get more snow than most other cities in the United States. Flagstaff gets 90 inches of snow a year on average!

What is the most snow Cochise County has ever gotten?
In 1916, Cochise County received its heaviest snowfall in history. It was January 20th when a snowstorm hit the citizens of Cochise County. In the span of 24 hours, over 30 inches of snow fell from the sky. 107 years later, I could barely imagine seeing this county get 30 inches of snow in a year, let alone in one day.
Are we expecting snow this year?
In 2026 there is not a huge chance of snow. Some sources are expecting snow in February, others say it's going to be a snow free year due to the lack of overnight freezes. What do you think? Is Cochise County going to be hit with a snow like a lot of other states in the US, or are we going to be able to stay warm until spring?
