The Nancy J Brua Animal Care Center in Sierra Vista, Arizona has a lot of pets who need homes! None of the animals want to be in the shelter, but sometimes they end up in unfortunate situations. Some of the dogs at the animal shelter have been there for over a year and have yet to find a forever home.

Some of these dogs have been there for their whole lives, while some were taken to their shelter after something happened to their owner.  It isn't that these dogs are bad, it's just that no one's taken the time to get to know them. That's why the Nancy J Brua Animal Care Center started The Priceless Pups Campaign!

What are Priceless Pups?

The Nancy J Brua Animal Care Center started the Priceless Pups Campaign to boost the chances of adoption for dogs who have been there for a long time. When you adopt a priceless pup, there is no adoption fee, and they will be microchipped, vaccinated, spayed/neutered, and will receive 6 weeks of dog training, all for free.

All you have to do is reach out to, or stop by the Nancy J Brua Animal Care Center. You can even schedule meet and greets with kids or your other dogs to see how well these pups will fit in your home.

Why have these dogs been in the shelter for so long?

None of the dogs available for adoption are aggressive. Some of these pups even know tricks like shake! All of these dogs have different personalities. Some have a lot of energy, some prefer living with no other animals, and some just want to curl up and be pet. So why haven't they been adopted?

The dogs who have been there a long time are unfortunately the type of dogs that are stereotyped. They are all large dogs, which can sometimes turn people away from them. A couple of them are pitbulls, or pitbull mixes. According to the Institute for Environmental Research and Education, studies show that pitbulls are adopted less due to fear and bias.

Free Training

If you lost your home, or lived on the streets, and were moved into a place where your neighbors are yelling, and you don't recognize anything, you would be stressed, right? Any animal who winds up in a shelter is going to be stressed, which makes it hard to judge their personalities and abilities. A lot of the priceless pups came to the shelter trained, or picked up things after getting there, but the stress of the shelter also caused them to pick up some bad habits.

That's where free training comes in! A lot of people are afraid of adopting older, larger dogs, because they don't think they will be trainable. It isn't that these dogs are untrainable, it's just that the stress of living in a shelter for hundreds of days takes a toll. When you adopt a priceless pup, this dog gets 6 weeks of free training through Arrow’s Landing. This training will help them loose some of their shelter behaviors and makes integration into your home a little smoother!
