These days, it seems like the world's closing in around us. Everything in news cycles has become negative, and positive energy is a rarity.

That's why we need a little joy, in any way we can find it, and Arizona comes through every year with a contest the state can't wait to take part in.

ADOT "Name-A-Snowplow"

Every year, the Arizona Department of Transportation holds a contest to name the new snowplows being added to the state's force. Thousands of people submit names to be considered, which are whittled down over the course of three months.

It starts in January, when anyone can throw in their suggestion. These are cut down to a final 15, when residents across the state of Arizona can come together and vote for their favorites. Previous years have included winning names like "Snow-bi Wan Kenobi" and "Scoopacabra", but the 2025 edition may be a hard one to beat.

2025 Winning Names

For this year's contest, the third in history, over 2,100 submissions were received. Only six could come out victorious, however, so let's meet our newest fleet of snowplows.

Many of these were given multiple entries with slight differences, such as CTRL + SALT + DELETE having 16 different entries and Scoop Dog being submitted 46 different times. You can join the fun when the contest reopens next January at ADOT's website.
