New Way to File Taxes in Arizona
The tax deadline is almost here, and if you're anything like me, you've left filing to the very last second. With hundreds of groups asking you to pay them to do your taxes for you, getting everything done can feel suffocating.
If you've always wondered if there's a better way to do this, you're finally in luck.
IRS Direct File
Tax fans, rejoice! There is finally an easy (comparatively) way to file your taxes! IRS Direct File is a program starting this year in select states that allows you to file your taxes directly with the IRS.
This is a godsend, but it is bare-bones. If you itemize your deductions, unfortunately this program isn't for you. It only supports taxpayers with standard deductions, but does take care of things like student loan interest and educator expense deductions.
Direct File also only accepts three tax credits: Child Tax Credit, Earned Income Tax Credit, and Credit for any other dependents. In addition, the program only supports taxpayers that make less than $200,000 a year if they are single or the head of the household. This drops to $160,200 if you claim multiple income sources for the previous year.
Lastly, you will need to create an online IRS account in order to take advantage of the service.
Are You Eligible?
IRS Direct File is only available in 12 states so far, and lucky for you, Arizona is part of that group. While Arizona falls under the umbrella, it's not quite entirely eligible. Arizona residents will still have to file state tax returns.
Whether you use this program or not, it's a godsend for those that have gotten fed up with the current state of taxes and want a simple, easy, and direct way to file.
