The Arizona Diamondbacks Want MORE Taxpayer Money
The Arizona Diamondbacks are a newer institution in the world of Major League Baseball, but certainly not one that's flown under the radar.
Flip-flopping between winning droughts decades long and World Series appearances for their 27 years has left a very confusing legacy for that team in Phoenix, and now they're asking their home state for a handout.
Chase Field Needs Repairs
Opening alongside the Diamondbacks organization in 1998, Chase Field has stood as Arizona's baseball epicenter, as well as innovating for the rest of the league (the stadium was the first in America with a retractable roof over a natural grass field).
For a stadium that's almost three decades old, it obviously needs repairs, and a new Arizona bill is currently in the works to gather funding for said repairs. Arizona residents may have a bit of an issue with where the cash is coming from, however.

Who's Paying for This?
I think you already know the answer. HB 2704 just passed the Arizona House, 35-25, and would provide the necessary funding needed for Chase Field's repairs. The bill would create a fund which would pull from a percentage of sales and income tax brought in from games and events held at the venue.
Many residents have a problem with this, most importantly Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego. She believes that the bill's $200 Million taken from the city of Phoenix would be incredibly detrimental to the city's emergency services, and asks that a new plan be put in place.
Seems unlikely that the bill will be shot down though, so get ready for a brand new looking Chase Field sometime soon.
