What’s So Special About Bisbee’s Central School Project?
I am a massive fan of live, local music. I was a massive supporter of the local scene in Gainesville, to the point that I worked for a Record Label representing Gainesville bands (shoutout Swamp Records).
I found myself looking for something similar in Bisbee, and stumbled across a flyer for The Exbats, a local band I'd heard a lot about, playing at something called the "Central School Project".
What is the Central School Project?
The story of the Central School Project began in 1982, where it was being used as a tenants' association of artists. This quickly changed when it became incorporated in 1985, before gaining 501(c)(3) status in 1986.
In 1994, the Central School Project purchased the building from the local school district, and began to put forth their grand idea. They planned to build the place into a haven for artists, where they could create without judgement, and that's exactly what it has become.

What Does the Central School Project Do?
By definition, the Central School Project is a community arts center, where local artists can find a place to express themselves. Currently, the space is open for studio space, hosting around 20 artists at a time, live events, and meetings for creatives in the Bisbee community.
Any art is welcome at the project, from dancing to music, and painting to spoken word, the Central School Project's only goal is to foster creativity and the arts in Arizona's most creative town.
If you'd like to take advantage of the space, interviews are held when studio space opens HERE.
