Can Your Child Legally Get A Tattoo In Arizona?
Tattoos are an incredibly popular way of defining yourself, adding permanent art to your body that shows off your personality. Many wait until they're 18 to begin adding designs to their body, but it's not unheard of for younger people to get one.
A fuss has recently been made over a tattoo in Yuma, which sits on a very young girl. The question becomes, is this legal, and if so, moral?
How Young is Too Young?
About a year ago, a family went into Black Onyx Empire Tattoo in Yuma, where they planned to get a tattoo for their daughter. The daughter, only nine years old at the time, got an American flag tattooed on her arm with her parents consent.
An uproar was obviously caused, as many parents and tattoo artists raised concerns about tattooing somebody that young. Some artists have been critical, stating that it gives the whole shop a bad look when someone sees a tattoo on someone that young, proudly announcing where they got it.

Is it Legal to Tattoo a Child in Arizona?
Luckily for the parents, they broke no laws in doing this. It is legal within the state of Arizona to tattoo a child under 18, as long as the parents consent and are present for the appointment.
While many would recommend waiting until at least 17, some kids just can't wait, and as long as their parents are A-OK with the decision, they can get inked. The final decision, ultimately, is up to the artist, and many feel uncomfortable working on minors, even with express consent by the parent or guardian.
