We just can't catch a break, huh? Over the past few years, it's seemed like diseases we'd thought eradicated and those that we'd never heard of have been attacking our immune systems like an angry Mike Tyson.

We've seen plenty come out of the woodwork this past year alone, but none have had the implications that this has.

What Disease Has Broken Into Arizona?

In late November, state officials in Maricopa County noticed something concerning.  An owner of a backyard flock of poultry called in to the Arizona Department of Health Services to report signs of illness within the flock.

After samples from the flock were sent to a lab and tested, the ADHS came to their conclusion, and announced it on Monday, November 25th: Bird Flu was back. This isn't the first time this month this concern was raised, either. A poultry farm in Pinal County was also recently inspected, and signs of Bird Flu were present.

How Dangerous is Bird Flu?

If you know nothing of the disease, you likely don't think this is much to worry about. Unfortunately, this just isn't the case. Yes, Bird Flu can be transmitted to humans, just as easily as any other disease. This can come in the form of airborne particles or direct contact with the infected animal.

Human to human contact is the same. All it takes is for someone to touch an infected surface and then rub their eyes, nose, or mouth. Luckily, this is far less likely to spread from human to human.

The Avian Flu has a 54% mortality rate in humans, so be sure to stay safe, and stay updated on the spread to keep yourself and your family safe.
