There are few teams who have been as dominant on the basketball court as the Arizona Wildcats. The program has dominated the NCAA since the early 20th Century, and continue to be included in the National Title conversation.

These days, the Wildcats glimmer of dominance has dimmed, and they're still striving to reclaim their place on the top of the College Basketball Mountain. Do you believe in miracles?

Wildcat Season Woes

After a successful 2024 season, which saw the Wildcats reach the Sweet Sixteen in the NCAA March Madness Tournament, the team hoped to bounce back, this time with Title aspirations. That wasn't in the cards for Zona.

While not a failure of a season by any shot (they'll still likely make the NCAA tournament), this has been a much-needed wakeup call for the Cats. They're currently sitting unranked with a record of 14-6. They only sustained one conference loss against Texas Tech, but their out-of-conference wins are far more embarrassing. They needed a momentum change.

The Tucson Thriller

The Wildcats moment came the night of January 27th, when the third-ranked Iowa State Cyclones came blowing into town. Iowa State was favored to win, but Arizona knew they could keep it close. Unfortunately, with 2.2 seconds left on the clock, Arizona was down 71-68, and had the ball at the other end of the court. All hope seemed lost.

That is, until Arizona Guard Caleb Love hit a three-pointer from beyond the half court line as time expired to send the game into overtime. The Cats outscored the Cyclones 15-4 in Overtime to finish out the win, and topple the number three team in the Nation. The future is bright for the Wildcats.
