How To Protect Your Plants From Arizona Freezes
As the holidays begin to roll around, everything seems to come alive with the sound of music, the smell of cocoa, and the ever-present feeling of Christmas joy.
Unfortunately, not everything is coming to life, and your plant life may end up going in the opposite direction. That is, if you don't heed my advice.
The Easy Way to Protect Your Plants
A temperatures begin to drop, you want to ensure that your plants stay happy and healthy. The easiest way to do this is simply move them inside! Any plants that can afford that treatment, should get it, as it will allow them to survive through the harsh winter months.
Another great "catch-all" solution would be to add more mulch to your garden. Placing around one to four inches of extra mulch warms the ground around your garden, and makes it harder for the water making its way to your plants to freeze.

DIY to Stop Freezing
An excellent way to keep your garden safe while not having to uproot it is to essentially build them a home of their own. Cochise County Master Gardeners recommends using chicken wire to build a frame over your garden, before covering it with around four to six millimeters of plastic. This will create its own environment, and can raise the temperature inside by more than 20 degrees.
If that's not quite your speed, CCMG also suggest using cardboard boxes placed over plants at night, or blankets and quilts laid over planting beds.
Follow this advice, and I can guarantee (don't hold me to it folks) that your plants will stay happy and healthy all winter long.
