Arizona Biologists Are Literally Saving The American Spirit
America is full of iconography built into our country. From the Stars and Stripes to the legendary Plymouth Rock, but there's one American symbol that stands (or should I say flies) above all the rest, literally.
The Bald Eagle is synonymous with American ideology, and now Arizona's working to keep these majestic animals right where they belong.
Eagles in Arizona
No, I'm not talking about Don Henley's visit to Winslow to stand on a corner, I'm talking about the small, but growing Bald Eagle population in the Grand Canyon State. According to the Arizona Game & Fish Department, Arizona hosted around 90 breeding pairs of Eagles, that raised 77 chicks to adulthood, a new record for the state.
Sure, the population's growing, but they still face challenges. Tourists, outdoor enthusiasts, and more can disrupt breeding patterns or migration without even knowing it. That's where Arizona's specialists jump in.

Arizona Eagle Conservation
Biologists with the Arizona Game & Fish Department work tirelessly to grow Arizona's Eagle population. A major part of this is closing down outdoor recreation areas that house nests during mating season, ensuring the population can grow without disturbance.
During this season, biologists will safely carry eagles from their nests with soft hoods and boots, before testing for disease and tagging them. This allows for scientists to accurately track their movement and health, ensuring they stay safe through their migration before they settle again, and hopefully breed more to continue inflating the population. It's with the tireless work of these biologists that we can keep this symbol of the America Spirit healthy and thriving.
