Beat The Heat With Arizona’s New Themed Cocktail
There's nothing better on a hot summer day than sitting on a rooftop bar with your friends, and having a themed cocktail. Whether it's a bar specialty, a pop culture celebration, or anything in between, adding some pizzazz to your drinks brings people in.
The city of Phoenix decided to join in the fun, and now the Grand Canyon State has its signature cocktail.
How Did the Recipe Get Chosen?
Earlier this year, Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego reached out to the Arizona Restaurant Association and pour Forum Consulting to draw up "The Spirit of Phoenix" contest.
The contest allowed anyone from across the city to submit a recipe for a Phoenix-themed cocktail. 70 entries were received, and from there, mixologists from across the city narrowed down the list to just four drinks.
Starting in April, the recipes were introduced to local bars for sampling, where patrons could vote on their favorites.
How to Make 'The Phoenix'
The all-out winner of the contest was Nicole Long, a Santo Arcadia resident, who mixed locally sourced ingredients with her choice of tequila. The result is a drink that is unapologetically Arizona.
Need:
- Shaker
- 2 oz. Milagro reposado tequila
- 1 oz. chiltepín mesquite honey syrup
- 1 oz. lemon juice
- 1/4 oz. prickly pear syrup
- dehydrated lemon and peppers
Add all liquid ingredients into the shaker, shake well, pour into the glass of your choosing, and garnish with lemon and peppers. There you go! The Phoenix Cocktail is now your for tasting. Make one yourself, or request it at a bar, however you prefer it, you'll love this southwest spirit.
