Standin’ On A Corner: Arizona’s Gift To Rock ‘n’ Roll
When I think of Rock 'n' Roll history, the places that come to mind are Liverpool's Cavern Club, Apple Studios, and Graceland. What doesn't come to mind is a street corner in a small Arizona town.
One Arizona street corner, however, may be one of the most beloved spots in Rock 'n' Roll history.
Take It Easy
The Eagles are considered one of the greatest musical acts to ever grace the stage. A mixture of southern choruses, poppy melodies, and rockin' instrumentals made them the most unique sounding bands of the 1970s.
They didn't start off as American heartthrobs though, and needed something good to launch them into the stratosphere. That song was "Take It Easy", one of the band's biggest hits, and the one that thrust the young musicians into the spotlight.
How nice of them to draw spotlight to the Grand Canyon State in it.

Standin' On a Corner
The second verse of "Take It Easy" states "I a-standin' on a corner in Winslow, Arizona. Such a fine sight to see. It's a girl, my lord, in a flatbed Ford slowin' down to take a look at me".
This one line put a relatively unknown town on the national stage, and suddenly everyone wanted to stand on a corner in Winslow, Arizona. So Winslow did something about it!
Starting in 1997, a group got together to plan a tribute to this line, and thus, Standin' on a Corner Park was born. On September 10th, 1999 the park officially opened in the heart of Winslow.
Now, it's a massive tourist attraction, everyone wanting to stand where Glenn Fry and Ron Adamson allegedly had in the early '70s. Statues of the two tower over the park in their memory.
For a band from L.A., Arizona holds them near and dear to our heart.
