Arizona has no shortage of deadly predators. Every time you take a step outside, you may be at risk to meet a rattlesnake, mountain lion, Gila Monster, or any other of the dozens of fearful animals calling this state home.

There is one predator that tops all the rest, and its return to Arizona is imminent.

Arizona's Deadliest Predator

The deadliest animals on earth aren't lions, tigers, or bears (oh my!). In fact, they're a very common species that you can see quite frequently. That would be the humble mosquito, a blood-sucking insect that thrives in moist, warm conditions.

As monsoon season begins to ramp up in Arizona, these annoying little nuisances will begin showing up in droves. Best case scenario, you'll be aggravated every time you step outside, but at the worst, you could contract West Nile Virus or Malaria, as well as the dozens of other diseases these pests carry.

Arizona State's Genetically Engineered "Franken-Tomato"

Protecting Yourself from Mosquitos

There are a few ways you can protect yourself and your family this summer. Firstly, make sure to use EPA-registered big spray or insect repellant whenever outside. These ward off the bugs, but also have a very low impact on the environment and your body.

Protecting yourself is easy, protecting others, however, takes a bit more work. Removing standing water from your yard or porch is an excellent deterrent, as these insects prefer to lay their eggs in it. replacing/fixing damaged screens on your home is another surefire way to keep the pests away.
