The Phoenix Zoo Wants You To Fall In Love With Arizona
When I hike across the Arizona landscape, I'm captivated by the rising mountain peaks, curving valleys, and miles of flat desert. As wonderful and breathtaking as these natural formations are, my true love comes in the form of our wildlife.
For such a barren biome, Arizona is home to a vibrant animal ecosystem, but many are still unaware of the magic that hides in plain sight.
The Phoenix Zoo
Located in the heart of the state, the Phoenix Zoo has enthralled visitors since their doors opened in 1962. They are the largest non-profit privately owned zoo in America, and they show it.
The zoo is comprised of four separate trails, each with their own unique set of animals, from the exotic wonders of Africa to the domestic joys of America, it's a perfect visit for anyone who loves animals. The zoo has been conservation-first for much of their existence, and their newest exhibit is taking that even further.

Big Cats of Arizona
In 2025, the Phoenix Zoo's most personal project will be unveiled. Titled "Big Cats of Arizona: A Bridge to Arizona Wilderness", the $5.3 million habitat will shine a light on the beauty of Arizona's natural wildlife.
many changes are coming, such as new enclosures for the zoo's Jaguars and Mountain Lions, which will be almost five times the size of their previous living space. Zoo management is adamant that the habitat is meant for the comfort of the animals first, and visitors second. While there will still be state-of-the-art viewing areas, the conservation team focused on the well being of the cats first and foremost.
The exhibit will have a Grand Opening on April 5th.
