NO LAUGHING MATTER: New Drug Sweeps The Streets Of Arizona
Recreational drug use has been a problem for decades. Whether it's marijuana, cocaine, LSD, or any number of mind-altering substances, people will find a way to get high.
Now, a common substance is being abused across the state of Arizona, and it's led to a panic, unaware of how far this addiction will go.
What is Nitrous Oxide?
Better known as Laughing Gas, Nitrous Oxide has been around and accessible for years. Originally, it was meant for use in dentists' offices as a relaxant, as well as an active component in making whipped cream.
These days, however, the youth are taking this substance as a recreational drug. The drug can be bought at just about any smoke shop in the state under various names, like "Galaxy Gas", "HotWhip", "Miami Magic" and more. Inhaling the fumes is said to cause lightheadedness and euphoria, leading to a highly addictive, incredibly accessible product.

The Dangers Behind Nitrous Oxide
Like almost every other recreational drug, there are massive dangers attributed to the use of Nitrous Oxide. The most major is brain damage and psychosis, which is a common side effect of the gas. This is due to the drug depriving your body and brain of oxygen for around 10 to 15 seconds, obviously a necessity to keep yourself alive.
Usage has risen drastically over the past few years. According to the 2023 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, around 13 Million Americans have tried the drug, and attributed deaths have risen 110% between 2019 and 2023. While Arizona does have age restrictions for buying the drug, it's fallen behind as more and more states ban it outright due to safety concerns.
