Arizona Non-Profit’s Creative Solution to the Housing Crisis
Arizona's housing market is in trouble. The state approved over 55,000 new housing units last year, but it's still trying to overcome a severe housing shortage.
This shortfall is especially hard on those living at or below the poverty line. A non-profit church in Glendale is looking for a solution to the shortage. And they believe they may have found one, temporarily, at least.
The Great Recession and Arizona's Housing Shortfall
The roots of this crisis go back to the Great Recession of 2023, when new home construction slowed down drastically.

Since then, Arizona's population has grown rapidly, and in the last few years, rising land costs and zoning issues have made it even more difficult to keep up with the growing demand.
A Non-Profit Solution to Arizona's Housing Crisis
That's where Family Promise of Greater Phoenix is stepping up in a big way. They're a nonprofit church in Glendale and the architects of this solution.

They're building a small-scale housing development called "Family Promise's Legacy Village," and it's coming together right in the heart of Glendale. The project has a unique vision: it's using shipping containers to create transitional housing units.
These containers are being transformed into 640-square-foot, fully furnished apartments.
Timeline: Completing the Housing Project in Arizona
The project is about eighty-five percent complete, and it's expected to be ready by the end of the year.

This could be a game-changer for some of Glendale's poorest families, providing them with a temporary place to stay and allowing them to save up for more permanent housing.
The nonprofit church's creative and cost-effective solution to this pressing problem could make all the difference for families and individuals trying to get back on their feet.
While Arizona's housing shortage is challenging, creative projects like the one in Glendale offer a glimmer of hope to families in need.
