If you've traveled down that Bad Road in front of Target and Fry's in Sierra Vista in the last few years, you've probably wondered if you suddenly drove on railroad tracks or accidentally hit an old Conestoga-covered wagon trail.

The site of other drivers traversing the craggy, bumpy roads would have us wondering if that driver was intoxicated. You'd be wrong on all counts.

It's just that abysmal portion of Highway 90 that ADOT's been promising to fix since Wyatt Earp and his friends had that incident at the OK Corral.

Alright, I'm exaggerating a little bit. But everyone from Sierra Vista Mayor Clea McCaa to Sierra Vista City Councilman Mark Rodriguez to John Q Citizen has been emailing and calling and essentially rattling the Arizona Department of Transporation's cage, begging for an answer to this question:

Yo, ADOT: When will you fix that TERRIBLE Cochise County road on State Route 90?!

ADOT Finally Answers Sierra Vista About Highway 90

It seems we finally have an answer to that burning question. According to a brand new update from ADOT:

Pavement improvement project on State Route 90
  • Construction timeline: Crews have been setting up pre-warning signs and doing survey work along the project route.
  • Survey work has been completed from Moson Road to Campus Drive.
  • As of April 30th, crews are now doing survey work from Campus Drive to the Border Patrol Station.
  • In early May, crews will begin removing and replacing guardrails, starting at milepost 307.
  • Once the guardrails are complete, crews will then begin curb and gutter work, with pavement preservation work tentatively scheduled to start in September.
  • Watch for work crews Monday through Thursday from 6am to 4pm.
  • Construction is expected to be completed by Summer 2025.

They've added that schedules are subject to change due to weather and other unforeseen circumstances. Let's hope that any "unforeseen circumstances" are kept to a minimum!

Are we dealing with "Unforeseen Circumstances??" Why hasn't ADOT started this yet??

I, for one, can't wait to stop complaining about the complete lack of ADOT progress and start complaining about all the new road closures, detours, and road construction as this project gets underway.
