Is Arizona The Swiftie State?
At midnight on April 19th, 2024, former country music star and pop idol Taylor Swift released her 11th studio album, The Tortured poet's Department.
The pop star's latest release is more of the 80s synth-pop goodness that fans have come to know and love from America's sweetheart, so in honor of the album's release, let's take a look back at how the swifties run Arizona.
Renaming a City for Ms. Swift
Arizona officially became the state of the swifties last March, when the highly anticipated Eras Tour kicked off in Glendale. This tour saw Taylor playing hits from all stages of her career, and it drew in an appropriate crowd.
To honor what was shaping up to be one of the biggest tours in modern history, Glendale took it one step further and renamed the city "Swift City" for the days that Taylor would be playing. The Eras Tour went on to gross over a billion dollars and became the most profitable tour in history.

Bringing the Folklore to Schools
After the Eras Tour kicked off in Arizona, swifties in the valley were still hungry for more, so Arizona State University gave the people what they wanted.
Starting in the fall 2023 semester, ASU began offering PSY 498, or "Psychology of Taylor Swift - Advanced Topics of Social Psychology". This class uses Taylor's life and music to discuss psychological and sociological concepts. The class was, obviously, insanely popular, and has plans to remain on the ASU course load permanently.
Taylor Swift may not be from the Grand Canyon state, but few states care about Ms. 22 more than Arizona.
