Does Arizona Get A Good Night’s Sleep?
Sleep is on par with eating and drinking as a necessary, yet enjoyable part of the human experience. Sure, you have to sleep or else you're going to send yourself into psychosis, but most people would be lying if they said they hated going to bed after a long day.
Now, despite people wanting a good night's sleep, actually being able to crash out for eight hours every night is no easy task, but how well does Arizona hold up to their sleep schedule.
Arizona's Sleep Shortage
For the average adult, seven hours of sleep per night is considered healthy. It allows the body to recuperate and heal before another long day. Unfortunately, a large portion of American's don't reach this goal, and Arizona is no different.
According to a study by the National Council of Aging, 34.8% of Arizonans sleep less than seven hours per night, which is 2.5% more than the national average. Not great.
Causes and Effects
Lack of sleep can come from a number of factors, and while every person is different, there are a few actions that almost always lead to sleep depravation. For many, work hours keep them from getting enough sleep, shifting their sleep schedule for the worse, for others, it's personal obligations that keep them from hitting the sack.
Whatever the reason for sleeping less is, the effects are almost always the same. Daytime sleepiness, mood swings, lack of cognition, and high blood pressure are all common side effects for sleep depravation.
Arizona may not have the worst sleep schedule, but it isn't great. Make sure you schedule your days right to get at least seven hours of sleep, and you'll begin to notice a world of difference.
