There are a billion reasons I could give you on why I moved to Arizona, but first and foremost is the state's natural beauty. Even after a few years here, I'm still awestruck by the views I get every single day.

Now, those lands we hold near and dear may be leveled and developed to become new cities, but why?

Privatizing Public Land

A new bill, introduced by Utah Senator Mike Lee, is making waves for it's gaudy hopes to level millions of acres of land across the United States, including 14 million in Arizona alone. The hope is that the land will be used for new housing, but at what cost?

The land being sold off in Arizona specifically are favorites of residents around here, like Mount Lemmon, the Superstition Mountains, the Sky Island Mountain Range, and more. National forests across the state will also likely be effected, destroying thousands of fan-favorite hiking a recreation areas.

What's the Benefit?

As stated before, the end goal for this bill is to create more space for affordable housing across the U.S., a solution that is desperately needed in Arizona. Ask just about any Arizonan, however, and they'll likely tell you to find another way.

This land is important to who we are as a state, it defines what sets us apart from everyone else in the Union. Luckily, National Parks are off-limits... for now, but Arizona's beautiful landscapes and majestic mountains may soon be home to tourist traps and luxury condo developments.
