Arizona Makes A Massive Crack Down On Underage Drinking

The United States has a legal drinking age for a reason. Younger brains and bodies are not equipped to handle the effects of alcohol, but that doesn't stop minors from finding a way to get their hands on liquor.

Recently, Arizona law enforcement have begun a statewide crackdown on underage drinking, and just made one of the biggest busts in state history.

Underage Drinking in Tempe

In late April, Tempe police put on a show of force. They had heard rumors that one bar in the city was allowing underage patrons in with fake IDs, so they went to check it out. The bar was called the Tempe Tavern, and is located just outside of Arizona State University at McClintock Drive and Apache Boulevard.

Once they entered, chaos ensued, and officers detained 173 individuals involved in underage drinking. Of that 173, eight were taken to the city jail for additional offenses.

What Happens if You're Caught Drinking Underage?

According to Arizona law, if you're caught drinking underage, especially while using a fake ID to gain access to it, you'll be hit with a misdemeanor. Minors are technically allowed in bars, but only with a parent or legal guardian, which I can guarantee you was not the case for these kids.

Tempe police is taking this and running with it. This is part of a larger plan to crack down on underage drinking at all levels, and TPD left a message warning anyone who decides to walk that path to watch out: "We're Watching".
