You Can Rest Easy, Arizona’s Emergency Dispatch Just Got Better
Misfortune happens. This is an unfortunate part of the human experience, but it happens to everybody. Whether you're falling off a cliffside or being held at gunpoint, even the luckiest person alive is at the whims of chance.
Luckily, that's what emergency dispatch is for, and Arizona just took ours to a whole new level.
What is "Next Generation 911"?
No, this isn't a new Star Trek spinoff. Next Generation 911 is a new program being implemented in Arizona emergency services, making it easier to reach dispatch, and making it easier for them to find you.
One major change that has been asked for time and time again is finally being implemented. Now, instead of having to call 911 to reach a dispatcher, you can send texts, voice memos, video messages, and photos to help emergency services know exactly how best to help you.

NG911 Revolutionizes the Game
The biggest change coming to NG911 is one that people have waited years for. You know how when you call an Uber, or DoorDash food, the driver meets you at an exact location, usually pinpointed by your phone's GPS? That technology is finally coming to emergency dispatch.
This technology will allow dispatch to find your exact location within seconds of a call, more effectively getting EMS, Fire, or Police to your location. This is literally life-saving, as with many emergencies, every second matters.
The program is active now, with a major focus on bringing in rural communities, which tend to have a slower response time than say, Tempe or Tucson. These changes could help save countless lives, and Arizona's excited to be one of the first to adopt this system.
