Arizona Is Running Out Of Lawyers
One of the worst things you could possibly ask for in a court hearing is having a bad lawyer. You know what's worse than that? Having no lawyer.
That's becoming a reality more and more across the state of Arizona as the legal practice has been spread thin, too thin.
Where are the Lawyers?
Arizona isn't exactly a state where major financial and white collar crimes take place. While they certainly have their place in larger metropolitan areas, most legal practice will be more personal cases across the rural areas of the state.
It's because of this that many aspiring lawyers don't seek out the Grand Canyon State, and those who studied here are likely to leave as well. Arizona is currently ranked 49th in the country in lawyers per capita, which is not a good sign for those needing legal defense, especially in more isolated regions.
Arizona's Plan
So, Arizona needs more lawyers, but they're not staying in-state. How do you solve this? By giving them a reason to stay. That's exactly what the Arizona Lawyer Apprentice Program aims to do.
The program aims to train young legal professionals under established firms and encourage them to stay with the program. Prospective lawyers who scored between 260 and 269 on the Uniform Bar Exam are eligible. These are scores just close enough to passing, but not quite at the 270 required to get your license.
Those involved in the program must work at either a public or rural law office, once again pushing the narrative to stay in Arizona.
