Respiratory Illnesses At Fault For Unusually Busy AZ Hospitals
When COVID-19 hit the United States in March 2020, panic broke out almost immediately. The scope of the tragedy is still unfathomable, and the world has not yet fully recovered from it.
Healthcare at the time became a massive issue, as hospitals filled up faster than patients could be treated. That problem has arisen once more in Arizona.
Why are Arizona Hospitals Full?
Luckily, a massive new pandemic is not the reason behind Arizona's healthcare system being filled to the brim. In fact, it's something people should already be wary of: Influenza. The common flu has been an issue since the early 20th century, but Arizona's seen a huge spike in recent weeks.
Maricopa County alone has seen a 35% increase in new Flu cases in just the past week, and it's expected to grow. While not the plague it was in 1918, it's still a pain, and sending more and more immunocompromised people to doctors and emergency rooms.

How Can You Protect Yourself?
Luckily, stopping the spread of Influenza is as easy as A-B-C. Experts say just being out and about is risk enough, due to how easily the disease is transmitted. Wearing a mask, if possible, is a simple way to protect yourself while in larger crowds, as well as washing your hands after touching surfaces and door handles in public places.
The CDC recommends that if you believe you have contracted Influenza, stay inside and continue to sanitize. You may be fine, but older folks and those with compromised immune systems may not be as lucky.
