The Inspiring Story Of Arizona’s Own Forrest Gump
Forrest Gump is widely regarded as one of the greatest films ever made. Following a young man from Alabama who finds himself in the midst of every major moment in 20th century American history, it inspired and uplifted audiences across the world.
Arguably the most famous moment of the film is Gump's cross-country run, inspiring thousands of others to follow him across America. Now, one Arizonan has followed his lead, and is inspiring others to do the same.
Don't Let a Diagnosis Stop Your Life
In 2021, Betsy Mueller's life was turned upside down. The Arizona native was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, an autoimmune disease that causes muscle weakness, vision loss, numbness, and memory issues.
For many, this is a lifechanging disease, stopping you from living life as you knew it, but for Betsy, she saw this as an opportunity to show the world that the disease didn't define her, and that's exactly what she did.

The Cross-Country Run
In early 2025, Mueller decided she wasn't going to lay down and quit. So, on March 9th, she made her way to California and began one of the greatest human feats I've ever seen: running across America. Starting in southern California, she made her way through the southwest, into the Midwest, and into New York City. She faced adversity, sure, but nothing stopped her from accomplishing her goal.
Along the way, she inspired hope in thousands, and raised money for the charity Active with MS, showing that no matter what, you can continue to fight whatever you're struggling with. She stated that "You don't have to run across the country. You just have to take your own steps, whatever that looks like", and has proven that her diagnosis wasn't even a setback, it was an opportunity.
