If you've never experienced this whimsical art installation, head down the rabbit hole for as artists fill this old mining town with wonderland of sculptures, murals, and mosaics.

The History of Alice in Bisbee Land

Alice in Bisbee Land is the creation of local artist Sam Woolcott, who started making art out of recycled materials and found objects in 2010. She was inspired by the history and culture of Bisbee, a former copper mining town that became a haven for artists, hippies, and free spirits.

Sam decided to use Alice in Wonderland as a theme for her art, because she felt it captured the spirit of Bisbee: a place where anything is possible, and nothing is as it seems. She began placing her sculptures around town, inviting visitors to follow Alice down the rabbit hole and explore the hidden gems of Bisbee.

Some Things to Expect with Alice in Bisbee Land

  • A giant caterpillar made of tires and metal scraps that sits on a mushroom near the entrance of town.
  • A mural of the Mad Hatter's tea party on the side of a building, featuring portraits of local residents as the characters.
